Positions are available in a variety of settings:
- Preschool, Primary School, Special School, Secondary School and Wendy's Music Studios
- Instrumental classes for individual and groups
- After-hours instrumental in studios
- Workshops, ensembles, clinics
- Accompanist
- After
registration an interview is organized to determine positions best
suited to you.
Key Tasks
Teaching instrumental music to individuals, small groups, classes, and ensembles. Encourage, organize and foster the participation of students in appropriate performances. Develop, organize and direct ensembles, bands, choirs etc.
Required Skills
Competence in one or more musical instrument. Performance experience on one or more instrument. Appropriate formal qualifications will be well regarded. Experience in teaching/leadership roles also will be helpful, not essential.
Hours of Work
This will be determined by the requirements of each individual placement. Opportunities exist in Preschool, Primary, Special and Secondary Schools, during school hours and as afterschool programs. If desired there may be more than one school at which a teacher is placed.
Rate of Pay
Positions are usually that of casual employees paid monthly in arrears. Payment is per student per half-hour lesson, or in some cases is on a per-day basis. Tax will be deducted. Teachers will be covered for superannuation, Workcover, and public liability. Please note: teachers will a small number of hours may be deemed 'subcontractors', not employees. This will be clarified at the beginning of any position.
Personal Requirements
The ability to work with students in an encouraging and informative way. The ability to work with other teachers as members of a team. The ability to follow a curriculum. Punctuality and reliability. Good communication and organizational skills. Presentation of a recent Police check.
Training
Attendance is
required at an initial induction workshop to become familiar with the
syllabus, admin procedures, complete contracts etc.
Further attendance is required at training workshops held at least once each term, or more frequently if required. |
